Central Texas Medical Center’s diabetes educator, Mario Torres, was recently asked to see a patient that he normally wouldn’t visit, as the patient’s hemoglobin A1c was within normal range. However, their time together was of great value.
Mario typically incorporates the CREATION Health principles of Choice, Rest, Environment, Activity, Trust in God, Interpersonal Relationships, Outlook and Nutrition into his visits. That day, he asked the patient early in their discussion if he had a support system or a church family. By the end of the visit, the patient told Mario he was convinced God had sent him. The patient explained that he had stopped attending church four years ago when he became ill, and that Mario had helped him understand how a support system and relationship with God could positively influence his overall health.
