Adventist Health System (AHS) plans to break ground on its new 150,000-square-foot, five-story, eco-friendly headquarters on April 6, 2010, with an employee-focused celebration at the new site. It will be located near the intersection of State Road 434 and Maitland Boulevard in Altamonte Springs. “Winter Park has been home to us for many years. However, space is limited and expanding on our current site doesn’t provide a long term solution,” said AHS President Don Jernigan.
The headquarters is comprised of the corporate office for Adventist Health System, a faith-based hospital system that supports 37 hospitals, 17 long term care centers and 21 home health agencies. AHS employs 50,000 people, includes more than 6,600 licensed beds and provides care for more than 4 million patients each year.
“Under the Lord’s guidance, we have been blessed with a growing AHS family and we need a new building that can house all the corporate office’s present and future needs. We are excited to be creating and customizing a building, focusing on our specific needs as an organization,” said Jernigan.
Key to the new building is a reflection of the mission of Adventist Health System, “extending the healing ministry of Christ.” Using nature, fountains and sculptures, the new facility will reflect this spiritual emphasis.
Construction will begin immediately on the first phase of the more than 20 acre site, with completion expected in about 18 months. Approximately 260 employees, many of whom currently work in two offices owned by AHS in Winter Park, will move to the new facility when it is complete.
The project architect is Charlotte, N.C.-based Little, the contractor is Brasfield & Gorrie, the Development Manager is Crescent Resources and the Project Consultant is Parsons. The new building will use an environmentally sensitive design, including “green” building materials, energy-efficient layouts and landscaping contributing to a natural environment.
Adventist Health System is a not-for-profit healthcare organization that emphasizes Christ at the center of care. Founded in 1973, Adventist Health System has quickly grown to become the largest not-for-profit Protestant healthcare provider in the nation.
Adventist Health System’s flagship, Florida Hospital, is one of the largest healthcare providers in America and a national leader in cardiac care. Established in 1908, Florida Hospital now includes almost 2,200 beds on eight campuses.
